Yassar Kanawati, M.D.

Dr Yassar Kanawati is Board Certified in General Psychiatry and Neurology and Board Certified in Addiction Medicine and has completed fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. On January 1st 2022 the American Psychiatric Association Board of Trustees elected Dr. Kanawati a Distinguished Fellow.

Dr Kanawati was the Medical Director and Senior Manager at The Devereux Georgia Treatment Center from 2000 to 2007 She has been the Medical Director and Supervisor at the Family Intervention Specialists in Hiram Georgia from 2007 until July 2014 and had also a private practice at the Atlanta Area Family Psychiatry Clinic since 2002 as an independent contractor She continues to be an Adjunct Clinical Professor and Clinical Adviser Department of Psychiatry Morehouse School of Medicine since 2001She is a member of the Medical Association The American Psychiatric Association The Georgia Physicians Associations and recently was a speaker at GPPA winter meeting

Dr Kanawati graduated from the University of Damascus Medical School in 1988 She has received a Diploma in General Psychiatry from the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris France 19891990 After relocating to the United States she completed Residency in Psychiatry and Fellowship in Child Psychiatry at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit Michigan 19931998

Dr Yassar Kanawati is currently a permanent staff member at Piedmont Hospital and a consultant at the Liver Transplant unit at Piedmont Hospital

Dr Kanawati specializes in treating ADHD Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder Depression Bipolar disorders and PTSD posttraumatic stress disorder and many other psychological disorders.
