Peter Leoni, MD

My name is Dr. Peter V. Leoni, M.D., and I specialize in general surgery. I perform and have a special interest in vascular surgery and I maintain privileges in thoracic surgery. I received my bachelors of science degree in biochemistry at the University of California Davis in 1979 and earned my medical degree at Creighton University Medical School in 1983. Following active service in the United States Navy, I started my residency in general surgery at the University of California San Francisco. I later took a research fellowship at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, and completed my general surgery residency at the University of California Irvine in 1997. I then took a one-year fellowship in vascular surgery at Long Beach Veterans Affairs Hospital in 2000. I served our country in the United States Navy from 1979-2006 in both active and reserved status. I was mobilized back to active status in the year 2001 during the Afghanistan and Second Gulf Wars. I have been in continuous practice in Solano and Sonoma counties, where I have raised our four children. I am I diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and have recently renewed my certificate in 2013. I am also an active fellow in the American College of Surgeons.
I have the privilege to help patients recover and heal from a wide variety of diseases that require the skills and knowledge of a surgeon. I have found every patient to be unique in their presentation of a disease: their response to surgery, their recovery from surgery, and their return to health. Therefore,
everyday in the field of surgery is stimulating and challenging. I am prepared to help my patients even when their disease is complex and the surgical treatment arduous. I give thanks everyday that I have been given the opportunity to be a general surgeon.
