About
My name is Patricia Chukwu. I am a masters- prepared, Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who embodies a unique blend of expertise and genuine care in her patient interactions. Born and raised in Lagos Nigeria, I immigrated to the United States in the 1990s. I obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University, Los Angeles and master's degree in nursing from Walden University, Minneapolis. I am licensed in Florida and California. I have been in healthcare since 1996. I started my career as a surgical nurse with the county of Los Angeles and transitioned to critical care nursing in the early 2000. I relocated to Orlando in 2003 with family and took a position with the Advent health as an Intensive Care Nurse, a position I held for over 16 years before transitioning to mental health.
I saw my family members and friends suffer from mental illness and would not seek help due to the sigma society places on the disease. I decided to pursue my education in mental health to help others. I worked as a mental health nurse in an inpatient acute care psychiatric hospital before becoming a provider. I have a broad background in treating mild to severe psychiatric disorders in various settings, including inpatient psychiatry, intensive outpatient psychiatry, telemedicine, long-term living facilities, primary care, serving patients from across the life span.
My whole-person approach to patient care is marked by a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of the client's mental, physical, and social well-being. I am passionate about quality patient care and collaboratively develops tailored treatment plans for clients' specific needs.
I am a member of Neuroscience Education Institute NEI, and American Psychiatric Association APA, two bodies that offers continuing education to help stay up to date with latest research, medical advancement and improving skills.
My focus is to actively involve clients in their healthcare decisions to help them think, feel, and be at their best so they can continue to thrive in life.
