Melinda Shoemaker

Dr. Melinda Shoemaker has been practicing in the medical field for nearly four decades, first as a Physician Assistant, spending most of her time in surgery and for the past 29 years, as a podiatrist. She works out of the University of Miami Hospital and shares a practice with her husband, Dr. Thomas Zwick.

Dr. Shoemaker specializes in bone infections of the foot and ankle, particularly ulcers in the foot and leg, as well as gangrene and diabetic wounds. Despite her knack for these areas, Dr. Shoemaker sees all other foot problems as well, such as heel spurs, tendonitis and plantar fasciitis.

Drs. Shoemaker and Zwick work closely together and often treat patients as a team. They have also used bioengineered skin substitutes to help heal wounds on patients, either in outpatient care or during surgery.

Dr. Shoemaker says she believes her years of experience in medicine have helped her to become an even more effective podiatrist today.

I now have a thorough understanding about every aspect that needs to be investigated and done to cure an infection, heal the wounds and salvage the limb, Dr. Shoemaker says.
