Dr. Pfaff graduated second in his class at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine PCOM and received the Sigma Alpha Omicron Academic Honors Award. Prior to medical School, Dr. Pfaff graduated from Texas AM University with a B.S. in Bio-engineering and worked for six years developing flight safety equipment for military and civilian pilots and crew.

Dr. Pfaff completed his Orthopedic Residency at PCOM, receiving chief resident appreciation and intern of the year awards. Following residency, Dr. Pfaff continued his training with a Fellowship in Adult Joint Reconstruction and the University of Pennsylvania. This training included all aspects of hip and knee surgery including Total Hip and Knee Arthroplasty using minimally invasive techniques and new materials such as ceramics and highly cross-linked polyethylene. During his Fellowship, Dr. Pfaff was involved in training orthopedic surgery residents, as well as performing several research projects.

Dr. Pfaff believes that orthopedic treatment must encompass the needs of the whole patient. Since patients' other medical problems often contribute to their orthopedic afflictions, a multi-disciplinary approach including primary care physicians, medical specialist and physical therapists in addition to the orthopedic surgery when necessary, yields better results for each individual patient.

Dr. Pfaff insists patients be educated and encouraged to participate in all facets of their orthopedic care. He also advocates exhaustive use of conservative non-operative treatment as first-line therapy prior to any surgical intervention.
