About
My wife and I grew up right here in the Texas Panhandle. I was born and raised in Borger, but went to school in Stinnett as my parents were teachers. My wife was raised in Spearman, but we didnt officially meet until we were both living in the Dallas-Fort Worth, area. We moved back to the Panhandle in 2013 to be closer to our family. We have a lot of fun with our young son who runs circles around us. We enjoy a good round of golf, but we are also happy enjoying our patio fire pit with our friends. We both love College Football as she is a Red Raider and I am an Aggie. Things are a bit less tense now that our schools are in different conferences.

I decided to be an Osteopathic Physician after learning about the philosophy from my roommate who was attending Texas College of Osteopathic Medical School in Fort Worth. Osteopaths are encouraged to look at the person as whole rather than as a disease. While we have equally strenuous training in basic and medical sciences as M.D.s, we are also trained in hands-on osteopathic manipulation. This allows us to truly diagnose and treat the entire body from head to toe, and enable the body to heal itself rather than simply prescribing a pill.

Despite loving DFW, I liked the greater freedom of a more independent curriculum that Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida, provided. I was able learn physiology while floating in my apartment pool rather than sit in a class room all day!

South Pointe hospital, a community hospital with the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, became our home for Residency. While there, I had access to excellent training in Osteopathic Manipulation and Family Medicine, as well as the resources of one of the best hospitals in the world.

I chose family medicine as my specialty before I was even accepted into medical school. When I thought of doctor, the image of the small town, do everything physician always came to mind. No specialty compares to the variety of family medicine. I am able to take care of the youngest to oldest, and any given day I am discussing diabetes, performing a knee injection, counseling over the loss of a loved one, and using manipulation to help a migraine.

Integrative Medicine became more of a focus while I was in my last year of medical school. Our country has the best emergent and urgent care system in the world, but we are failing individuals with chronic diseases. We just give pill after pill to manage these problems rather than treating the underlying problem. Integrative Medicine combines evidence based conventional and alternative treatments which better address these issues more than the pharmaceutical companies have ever been able to do. Focusing more on nutrition, exercise, supplements, and emotions provides a much more complete and preventive approach to the diseases that are plaguing our country such as diabetes and obesity.

We opened Amaro Integrative Medicine, in October 2014, with my wife as Office Manager. Our goal is to give people the time they deserve rather than to be rushed through like cattle. A typical new patient visit will be 45 to 60 minutes face-to-face with a physician. The most important trait you want in a primary care physician is someone who cares enough to take the time to actually listen to your complaints rather than rushing you to a diagnosis and treatment.

In addition to conventional medicine, our practice utilizes nutrition, osteopathic manipulation, nutraceuticals, injections, and much more to give our patients the tools they need to find health.

Amarillo is our home and will be for life. We want our home to be happy and healthy.
