About
Joyce Chams, MD
Board Certified Gynecologist with 30 Years Experience

Being an advocate for my patients means:
Truly listening and getting to know them, beyond the medical history checklist.

Spending adequate time problem solving, diagnosing issues, educating them on their options, and empowering them to make decisions that feel right to them.

Caring about their physical, mental and emotional healthand making sure they have the knowledge and support that they deserve.

The relationships I develop with my patients are based on trust. I create a safe space for them to confide in mewhether it be medical issues, relationship dynamics, or life experiences. Providing the best gynecological care and support for my patients overall wellbeing is my top priority.

With 30 years experience as a Gynecologist, Ive developed a deep understanding of womens healthcare needs across all ages.

Ive seen some patients from the day I delivered them in the hospital, through them starting their own families. Ive provided hope and guidance to teens and women through life-altering situations, like sexual abuse and cancer diagnoses. Ive helped women reconnect to their vibrancy and vitality for life.

My patients range from teens, to soon-to-be mamas, to postmenopausal women. Each new, unfamiliar phase of life presents its own challenges to navigate. I am highly skilled and knowledgeable in identifying and treating issues across all ages.

My patients are met with compassion and understanding of whatever they are going through. They know that I will educate them until they are comfortable making decisions that are right for them.

I teach students at the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University as Assistant Clinical Professor, and also facilitate trainings for students and residents at North Shore University Health System and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

As a breast cancer survivor, Im passionate about breast cancer research and supporting underprivileged and abused women. Local organizations Im involved with include Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and Between Friends.

Being the first generation American in my family, I saw my parents struggle as immigrants. I was raised in Chicago and learned to speak 5 languagesFrench, Arabic, Hebrew, English and Spanish.

My upbringing made me curious about different cultures and sparked a keen interest in travel. Our family has taken trips all over the world, and I dont think well ever get tired of expanding our views.

I met my husband in medical school and since weve raised 3 children, now in their 20s. Amidst the demands of our professional lives, my husband and I always managed to make our kids our top priority. Raising my family is my biggest pride and I am a better doctor because of it.

Youll also find me enjoying gourmet cooking, theatre, tennis, biking and swimming.
