About
Dr. Altamirano is a renowned specialist in Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology and Electrophysiology with over 30 years of experience in the practice of Medicine.

After obtaining his degree of Doctor in Medicine and Surgery in Ecuador, he immediately began his clinical experience as an Assistant faculty at the University Guayaquil and, also, working in a Cardiology Ward at Luis Vernaza Hospital, Guayaquil- Ecuador. From there, soon, he moved to the United States where he worked in a Research dog lab in Atlanta, Georgia in 1982. He then began his post- graduate training at Jackson Memorial Hospital University Of Miami where he completed his residency in Internal
medicine for three years, his Fellowship in Cardiology for three years and finally an additional year as a Fellow in Intervention Cardiology.

Following his training, he continued in academic medicine in Los Angeles, California. He was appointed as Director of Interventional Cardiology and Electrophysiology at Olive-View UCLA Medical Center for several years, then he moved and worked as Associate Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Interventional Cardiology and Director of the Cardiology Clinics at West Los Angeles-VA Medical Center.

Upon returning to Miami- Florida, he was named Director of the Electrophysiology Laboratory at Kendall Regional Medical Center where he also functioned as Chief of the Department of Cardiology for several
years. Dr Altamirano served as Chairman of several Committees at KRMC as well.

In terms of academic appointments, he reached the level of Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCLA School of Medicine and he was also a Voluntary Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami.

Dr Altamirano also has experienced in the field of cardiology research starting in 1982 at the Research Cardiothoracic Lab at Crawford Long Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, then, at a Basic Research Cardiac
Electrophysiology Laboratory at Jackson Memorial Hospital and later on, he continued his own clinical research at Olive-View UCLA Medical Center and at West Los Angeles-VA Medical Center, where he was the Principal Investigator in several prominent studies. At the same time, he has participated in several peer- reviewed publications in the field of Cardiology including a Chapter in a book published in Italy.

Currently Dr. Altamirano works in Private Practice in his Cardiology Office and combines his office work with his Interventional Cardiology position on the STEMI team at Jackson South Medical Center.

Finally, he is an active member of different medical societies such as the American Heart Association, Heart Rhythm Society, Cardiac Electrophysiology Society, a former member of the Society of Electrophysiology of Greater Los Angeles, he is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention.
