Hazem Kanaan

Dr. Kanaan was born and raised in Damascus, Syria. He moved to the United States in 1999 to attend college and complete his undergraduate degree in biochemistry at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. He graduated with Cum-Laude Honors in 2005.

He was then accepted to West Virginia Osteopathic School of Medicine and obtained his medical doctoral degree in 2009. He went on to complete his specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Michigan at the Henry Ford Health Systems at Wyandotte Hospital in 2013. During his residency training, he was awarded the "Teaching Resident of the Year Award" in three out of 4 years.

Dr. Kanaan moved to the Rio Grande Valley and in a short time he completed his board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology; he then completed his fellowship specialty training in Obesity and Metabolic Disease Medicine in 2016.

Dr. Kanaan was appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2016. He is currently double board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Obesity Medicine.
