Ednan Ahmed, MD

Ednan Ahmed, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina surgeon at the Southern California Retina Center, The primary focus of his practice and research is the medical and surgical management of adult vitreoretinal diseases including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment repair, macular hole surgery, epiretinal membrane peeling and complex proliferative vitreoretinopathy surgery and repair of diabetic tractional retinal detachments.



Dr. Ahmed trained in ophthalmology at the prestigious Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and in vitreo-retinal surgery at Boston University. He has worked at some of the best hospitals in the world including Massachusetts General Hospital, Childrens hospital Boston, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, and Boston Medical Center. Dr. Ahmed is an expert in the management of vitreo-retinal diseases and has closely worked with the leading pioneers in the field of ophthalmology including Evangelos Gragoudas MD, who innovated the use of proton beam therapy for the management of ocular melanoma and other eye tumors, and Joan Miller MD and Anthony Adamis MD who are credited with pioneering photodynamic laser treatment and anti-VEGF therapy for macular degeneration. Anti-VEGF therapy is now considered the standard of care for the treatment of macular degeneration.



The work done by Dr. Ahmed has been presented at the Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and has been published in several academic journals. Dr. Ahmed is active in several professional societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists and is a reviewer for the Digital Journal of Ophthalmology.
