Greetings!
Welcome to our practice. Thank you for choosing Academy Allergy, Asthma, Sinus Immunology Center. We are dedicated to personalized, high-quality care.
You may have heard of the name "Patel," which is like "Smith" in the state of Gujarat, India. I grew up in the small town of Sarkhej in Gujarat, India. I underwent extensive medical training until my hair turned grey, including a fellowship in allergy and immunology at National Jewish Research Center in Denver the 1 respiratory hospital in the United States for the past 8 years.
I am board certified in allergy and immunology and have been proudly serving southern Colorado for eons, since 1988.
I am married and the father of two boys. Not only am I proud to be an American and U.S. Citizen, but I am also proud of my Indian culture and heritage-I am a vegetarian and a practicing Hindu.
Shaking Hands: To prevent spreading infection from one patient to another, I may not shake hands with you.
Tell Me: First, tell me whatever you have in mind-the reason for the visit, your symptoms, your concerns, your questions, etc. When you are talking, I will not interrupt you. If I do not say anything, it does not mean that I am not listening to you. I may make notes in your medical record while you are talking.
Check Up: Next, I will examine you. My nurse will help me while I examine you. They will instruct you what to do, such as open your mouth, take a deep breath, etc. With their help, I will be able to focus on examining you. Some patients may have difficulty understanding my accent and if so, my nurses will help make our interactions smoother.
Recommendations: After the examination, I will give you my recommendations. My nurse will assist me in carrying out my recommendations- explaining testsmedications to you, writing out your prescriptions, giving you samples, answering your questions, etc. I have trained my nurses in helping me. Do not hesitate to inform my nurse if you still have questions or want to talk to me. If they do not know the answers to any of your questions, they will inform me so that I can answer them for you.
Please take a few minutes to read the letters our patients wrote. We have typed all handwritten letters so that
you can read them easily-copies of the original letters are- also included.
I am proud of all our staff, including our medical assistants. I may refer to the medical assistants as "nurses" in a generic sense, as a banker or plumber becomes a nurse while nursing their mother or father.
Thank you, sincerely, from all of us here.
Ashok Patel, MD
