Arneta Finney, PhD, APRN, FNP-C, DAPWHc, CNL, PHN, WCC, WOCN, LPHA, serves as the Senior Director for Community Affairs in Health and Project Director for the National University Nurse Managed Clinic in Los Angeles, CA. She is also the Principal Investigator PI for a HRSA-funded mobile health training program that has received 4 million over four years to enhance the diversity of the nursing workforce and deliver primary care services to vulnerable populations. Since 2015, Dr. Finney has provided primary care services to over 900 patients across the San Diego and Los Angeles areas, focusing on primary care and prevention.
With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Finney has been a pioneer in developing curricula for graduate nursing programs, executing articulation agreements, assisting with academic support services, and designing and implementing mobile nurse-managed clinics. She has also been the recipient of numerous extramural grant awards totaling over 5 million. Her areas of expertise include Nursing, Wound Care, Simulation, and Education, with a strong focus on underserved communities.
In addition to her extensive clinical and educational experience, Dr. Finney has actively embraced innovative technologies to improve healthcare delivery. She has been a leader in the integration of virtual reality VR into nursing education and training, using VR simulations to enhance clinical skills and create immersive learning environments for nursing students and professionals. These VR initiatives, which have been particularly beneficial in training nurses for mobile health settings, allow students and practitioners to experience real-world scenarios in a controlled, repeatable environment, improving both technical skills and patient communication.
Dr. Finney has participated in various federally funded projects, including those focused on simulation education, mobile health training, and interprofessional education. Her responsibilities have involved designing and implementing nurse-led clinics funded by federal grants, fostering relationships with community leaders and elected officials, and driving community-based initiatives that expand healthcare access.
She has co-authored numerous research publications and reports related to clinic outcomes and has contributed to federal data collection for the Uniform Data System.
