Alberto J. Sabucedo, MD, PhD

Dr. Sabucedo was born in Habana, Cuba and arrived in the US when he was nine years old. He completed Elementary, Middle School and High School in the South Florida area. He graduated from South Miami High School five out of 589 students was his class rank. He attended the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL with a Henry King Stanford Scholarship where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry cum laude in three years. He soon after went to work for Baxter Corporation as a Chemist in 1986. He was promoted to Research and Development in his second year and over the next 12 years to a Scientist Project Leader developing medical immunoassays used in the hospital lab setting. He was a senior research scientist of the first Troponin I immunoassay developed on the Stratus RPIA Analyzer. Soon after the release of this very successful product he declined relocation to Germany or Delaware and went back to school for his PhD in Chemistry at Florida International University. He graduated with Doctorate in Chemistry in 2001. He stayed as Director of the Mass Spectrometry Facility and Lecturer for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry from 2001 to 2007. In 2007 he applied and was accepted to medical school at USF College of Medicine in Tampa Florida. He was also accepted at UC Davis School of Medicine, Sacramento, CA. He attended USF College of Medicine from 2007-2011 for medical school. He was then accepted at USF Health for Internal Medicine rotating through USF Health System Clinics, Tampa General Hospital, Moffitt Cancer Center and VA Haley Hospital. He successfully completed his Internal Medicine Residency in 2014. He applied and was accepted to Fellowship in Nephrology and Hypertension at the University of Miami- Jackson Memorial Hospital from 2014-2016. Dr. Sabucedo graduated and was Board Certified in Nephrology on his first attempt in 2016. He holds ABIM Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Nephrology and Hypertension, Dr. Sabucedo has been active in both Internal Medicine Hospitalist and Nephrology at several Hospitals. He has an office in Miami and is affiliated with Mercy Hospital in Miami. He also affiliated with Advent Health Hospital in Sebring, Florida. Dr. Sabucedo has provided services at Naples Community Hospital, Memorial Hospital in Broward, South Miami Hospital and Cape Coral Hospital in Cape Coral, Florida. Dr. Sabucedo has published over 12 papers in peer review literature int he areas of chemistry and medicine. His mentor at University of Miami was Dr. Gabriel Contreras one of the pioneers in the research of Lupus Nephritis treatment protocols. Dr. Sabucedo sees patients in his office in Miami and is active at Mercy Hospital in Miami with inpatient Nephrology. He works with Dr. Hassan Ali at Mercy Hospital inpatient setting.
